June 7-9, 2019, Ft. Wayne Airshow, Ft. Wayne, IN
It has been 70 years since the last B-17 lifted into the air during WWII to join the largest air armada ever to fill the skies, but on Saturday and Sunday June 8-9 the four giant Wright-Cyclone engines of Texas Raiders, a fully restored B-17 Flying Fortress will be roaring over Ft. Wayne. Of the 12,731 B-17s built during WWII, only 9 are actively flying—including Texas Raiders, which is part of the Commemorative Air Force. One of the last flying examples of the famous aircraft arrives Friday monring June 8 to participate in the Ft. Wayne Air Show.
Texas Raiders was the first Flying Fortress to be operated solely for the sake of preservation and use as a flying museum. She is one of the most accurately restored B-17’s, and bristles with machine guns and features period-specific equipment like the authentic Norden bomb sight.
The public is invited to come out to attend the 2019 Ft. Wayne Air Show to tour the aircraft and meet her crew. Cockpit tours are available at the airshow Saturday and Sunday beginning at 9:00 AM each day, and are conducted throughout the day, excluding flight times.
Texas Raiders will be offering flights Friday afternoon June 7 and before and after the airshow on Saturday and Sunday June 8-9 at Ft. Wayne Aero, 4401 Altitude Dr. Those who wish to fly with Texas Raiders are encouraged to call 1-855-FLY-A-B17 (1-855-359-2217) or reserve on line at www.B17TexasRaiders.org. for one of the limited number of 25-minute flights on the classic aircraft. Flights on the B-17 begin at $475.
