Memphis Millington Airshow - Featuring the US Navy Blue Angels

groundrunningblues

It has been 75 years since the last B-17 lifted into the air during WWII to join the largest air armada ever to fill the skies, but on Friday June 19, the four giant Wright-Cyclone engines of Texas Raiders, a fully restored B-17 Flying Fortress will be roaring over Memphis, Tennessee.  Of the 12,731 B-17s built across during WWII, only 5 are actively flying—including Texas Raiders, which is part of the Commemorative Air Force.  One of the last flying examples of the famous aircraft arrives Friday June 19 in Memphis to participate in the Memphis Air Show.

Texas Raiders will be offering tours and flights at the airshow at Memphis Millington Airport on Friday, Saturday and Sunday June 19-21, along with an array of aviation performers including the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and other exciting aerobatic performers.

Texas Raiders was the first Flying Fortress to be operated solely for the sake of preservation and use as a flying museum.  She is one of the most accurately restored B-17’s, and bristles with machine guns and features period-specific equipment.  The public can visit the aircraft and for nominal admission can take a walk-through tour that includes commentary from crew members.  Attendees who want the ultimate Flying Fortress experience can make a reservation now for one of the limited number of 25-minute flights on the classic aircraft.  Tours of the aircraft are $10 for adults, $5 for children or $20 for a family of up to five members; separate admission to the airshow is required. Flights on the B-17 begin at $475.

Cockpit tours are available Saturday and Sunday beginning at approximately 10:30 AM each day, and are conducted throughout the day, excluding flight times.

The public is invited to come out to attend the 2020 Midsouth Memphis Airshow at Memphis Millington Airport, 8101 Hornet Avenue, Millington, Tennessee to tour the aircraft and meet her crew.  Those who wish to fly with Texas Raiders are encouraged to call 1-855-FLY-A-B17  (1-855-359-2217) or reserve on line at www.B17TexasRaiders.org.
